Apply for driving licence online
Get your first provisional driving licence for a car, motorbike, moped or other vehicle from DVLA online.
Change address on driving licence online
Change the address on either:
your full driving licence
your provisional driving licence
It does not cost anything to change your address with DVLA.
You can still drive while you’re waiting for your new licence.
Check driving licence online
You can use this service to:
view your driving record, for example vehicles you can drivecheck your penalty points or disqualificationscreate a licence ‘check code’ to share your driving record with someone, for example a car hire company
The check code will be valid for 21 days.
You’ll need:
your driving licence numberyour National Insurance number - find your National Insurance number if you’ve lost itthe postcode on your driving licence
Tax your vehicle
Tax your car, motorcycle or other vehicle using a reference number from:
a recent reminder (V11) or ‘last chance’ warning letter from DVLA
your vehicle log book (V5C) - it must be in your name
the green ‘new keeper’ slip from a log book if you’ve just bought it

What happens on test day
What happens during the test. There are 5 parts to the driving test: The test is the same for both manual and automatic cars. How long the test lasts. You’ll drive for around 40 minutes. You’ll drive for around 70 minutes if you’re taking an extended driving test because you’ve been banned from driving.
